Description

ART NOUVEAU FRENCH SILVERED METAL CHALLENGE TOKEN ART MEDAL PENDANT 1928 UNISEX This is a very interesting piece. There is an acronym on the obverse with the letters RRCB. I have no idea what this stands for but the consignor believes it had to do with cricket and that the CB might stand for Cricket Board. Apparently, his grandfather was a star cricket player and won this first prize medal in 1928. The engraver for both the front and obverse is “Michel.” Presumably he is French, and his name is impressed on both sides. The subject is a Greco-Roman woman blowing a long horn, which was the ancient ceremonial way to honor the presence or arrival of an important person or, as in the case of this token, to draw attention to an important announcement or event. The underlying metal (pewter?) has been silvered with a matte finish in the background and the raised portions were silver plated in a high gloss finish producing a beautiful toned effect. Really lovely antique condition. Comes on an 18” sterling silver chain. HAPPY TO COMBINE SHIPPING.
